![]() My wife and I have visited Grand Teton twice before and stayed at SML both times (actually during our last trip we stayed at SML at either end of the trip.so maybe that counts as three times). I have always found the staff friendly and helpful.Įxcellent comments thus far. Staying there makes star gazing easy! Just wait until all the lights are off and walk down to the lake. I don't see wild life every time I go, but enough to know that it is out there! I have seen moose (many times) on site, as well as elk, mule deer, snow shoed hare, and a black bear. I have taken their float trip several times and have been impressed by the guides' knowledge of the area and wildlife. But it is centrally located, quiet, has a good on-site restaurant, marina and small grocery store. It is not a luxury hotel despite the price. Again, if you want a lake cabin, you will need to call and specifically ask for a 2 room cabin on the lake. But the beds are comfy and the ones on the lake are steps away from the lake and give Mom and Dad a separate bedroom. The bathrooms in these are not as nice as the Lakefront retreats. But on the lake front ones, the porches are private. They have a mini fridge but not coffeemaker or cooking area. ![]() The 2 room cabins with beds enough for 6 are another less expensive alternative. If you are planning for next year, call and see if you can get one close to the lobby for the best view. It is a lot of space and has a sitting area. The pull out sofa is actually very comfortable. (I don't like the lower ones, in case you can't tell). You do share your porch with the neighbor if you get an Upper Lakefront Retreat and if you get a Lower Lakefront Retreat, it is a patio that is accessible by anyone walking in front of the building. The closer you get to the lobby, the better your view is and the more your view is of Grand as well of Moran. The Lakefront Retreats have a gorgeous view of Mount Moran. The kitchen has a full fridge, a cooktop, and microwave and no oven. Probably SML a little more than CB, unless you have kids and you want to spend the day on the swim beach.I love Signal Mountain Lodge for its peaceful location. There's a gas station in the parking lot and the building has a nice little mart and a really good barista style coffee shop. There is no prettier view in the Tetons, with Mt Moran just across the water (along with the other mountains). That night's sunrise wasn't spectacular like a fall visit a couple of years ago, but the sunrise was gorgeous. We were able to snag an upper lakefront retreat last week and it was wonderful being back. One of the most amazing views of anywhere I've stayed, domestically and internationally. The bathrooms are really big and really nice - nicely tiled.īut the best of the best are the Lakefront Retreats. I stayed in a 1 bedroom log cabin with a fireplace. There are all sorts of lodging options there. I rented one last year and it was a highlight of that trip and many trips to the Tetons. We were there last year and the pontoon boats were moored AND at the end of the dock. Well, theboat ramp is at a lower elevation there so the marina should be able to operate this year. There's a marina there too and the water level is higher there. Signal Mountain Lodge is privately owned and was started by the Worts who sold and moved into town (long ago). Our room had two beds and was huge.Ĭolter Bay is managed by the GTLC - Grand Teton Lodge Company. ![]() ![]() Lots of floor space if you needed to add a sleeping bag on the floor for an extra kid. When we stayed there, our maid was very China and the cabin was SPOTLESSLY clean. The bathrooms at CB are VERY small with a small metal shower. ![]() You should be able to still enjoy the view and probably the swim beach though. Last year, boat owners had about two weeks total for mooring in the water of the bay - which is really sad because the wait list for mooring is decades long. Because of that, the marina at Colter Bay will remain closed. Last year they drew down so much water out of Jackson Lake (for Idaho potato farmers, the reason the dam was built) that the lake has been at about 22% fill for the past few months. It's a short walk to the waterfront with an amazing view of the Tetons. Not much of a view from the cabins in the pines, although I did have a peek of a peak at our cabin. I really like the historic log cabins at Colter Bay which were brought in from the surrounding area to create a village. ![]()
